Goal for the race? as for all races: have fun, finish and no injuries.
As this is my first World's its all about the learning experience.
Any special training secrets? For me its all about consistency of training. Keeping it up each week during the winter is
tough, but by only focusing on that week's schedule it helps and not skipping the sessions that may not appeal (especially
when tired). I always give myself a pat on the back when looking over my completed schedule data for the week. Following coach's advice with recovery weeks - catch up on sleep. Training with Tridents and being able to share stories with a great crowd always makes it pleasurable.
Favourite post race meal? Food - usually something salty after all the sweet gels you consume during a race. Preferably fresh fish and chips, if available. (p.s. not like Perth 2009 where we turned up to have moules and frites at the Belgium Bar only to discover they were out of moules!)

Is this your first worlds: Yes
How do you feel about making the Australian Team this year: Very happy and excited. Having only done one olympic distance
event prior to last summer, I set myself a goal of competing in the qualifying events to gain some more race experience.
Qualifying for the team is the icing on the cake.
Goal for the race: There seems to be many speedy women running around in my age group. Unfortunately, I'm not one of them.
So the race for me is about doing the very best I can, staying mentally calm and producing a personal best performance.
Any special training secrets: I haven't discovered any but consistent and regular training over a long period of time seems
to do the trick. And I think lots of little rewards along the way help - like regular massages, the occasional glass of good
wine, the occasional piece of nice chocolate (I said piece, not block!), the occasional nice restaurant meal, occasional
sleep in on a Sunday morning etc..................
Favourite post race meal: Since most races are on first thing in the morning, my favourite post race meal is usually a big
breakfast - eggs, bacon, toast, tomato, coffee, the works.

Quality trumps quantity the older you get. Talk to your coach often and be proactive with your recovery, most importantly
don’t take yourself too serious.... its only sport (yeah right!!)
Favourite post race meal?
Whatever I don’t have to cook.
Name Dave Hamer
Age Group Male 30 -34
Sprint / Olympic / Long Course / Aquathon ? Sprint distance (not quick enough to make the team for Olympic distance this year
unfortunately...)
Is This Your First Worlds ? If Not, How Many Times Have You Represented Australia ? Third World Champs for me, third
consecutive too. First was Hamburg (Olympic distance) in 2007, then Vancouver (again, Olympic distance) in 2008
How Do You Feel About Making The Australian Team This Year ? I feel the same way I have felt both previous times I have been
lucky enough to make the team - very privileged, hugely proud and massively excited about getting the chance to represent my
country. As an added bonus this year, the opportunity to race a World-level event in my home country in front of family and
friends is awesome - I can share the whole experience with people who haven't had the chance to see me race in big events
like this one !
Goal For The Race ? Enjoy the experience of wearing the green and gold at home here in Australia, especially in front of my
grandparents......and make sure I look good fanging around on the cycle course with Retlaw's Zipp 808 race wheels attached to
the Scott !
Any Special Training Secrets ? Hard work and consistency - there is just no substitute for putting in the work, and as long
as you keep doing a little bit all the time the improvements will come. Being part of a driven, talented and well-coached
squad environment doesn't hurt either - we TRIDENTS are right at the cutting edge of this stuff; hang on and enjoy the ride !
Favourite Post-Race Meal ? Something someone else cooks ??!!?!!! I don't really have a "must eat" post-event feed, but I
know there is always room for dessert......so anyone who finds any flash ice cream joints on the Gold Coast has to let me
know !!!
Name: Sonjya Dyason
Age Group: 40-44
Sprint/Olympic/Long/Aquathlon? Olympic
Is this your first Worlds? No If not, how many time have you represented Australia? Once before - Hawaii 2005
How do you feel about making the Australian Team this year? More relieved than anything else - due to injury, I only scraped
in with a minimum number of races
Goal for the race? Put together a good swim and ride - and try to make the distance on the run - remind myself that I'm
doing this for fun.
Any special training secrets? Can't even get the standard training complete in a week, let alone do anything secret or
special!
Favourite post race meal? Always feel a little unwell from the sugary race fuel, however, once recovered, I'll eat anything,
and along side it would be an alcoholic drink - depending on time of day - could be a bloody mary for post morning race, a
beer for early afternoon race, or a glass of champagne for later in the day!
Name: Greg Mitchell
Age Group: 50/54

Goal for the race? To do the best I can
Any special training secrets? Take notice of coach
Favourite post race meal? Anything
Name: Alyce Hutchings

Is this your first Worlds? If not, how many time have you represented Australia? I'm a first timer...
How do you feel about making the Australian Team this year? I'm really excited to be part of the team and am looking forward
to racing and celebrating with everyone!
Goal for the race? To finish feeling satisfied that I have given it all I've got.
Any special training secrets? I think consistancy is the key. I've learnt not to compare myself to everyone else around me
and just get each session done.
Favourite post race meal? Hmmm...Probably a big steak!
Name: Shane Robinson (Robbo)
Age Group: 30-34
Sprint/Olympic/Long/Aquathlon? Olympic and Long Course Teams
Is this your first Worlds? If not, how many time have you represented Australia? First Worlds
How do you feel about making the Australian Team this year? I was extremely happy with my summer, and to achieve my goal of qualifying for both Olympic and Long course teams is awesome. Whenever the worlds are close to Australian soil it is highly
competitive to make the team, and I believe that if you can make the team for this worlds you have truly achieved something
special.
Goal for the race? Win it? Maybe not. The aim for both events will be to stay with the main pack during the swim and bike
then aim for a run split PB. And as always, to minimize my sunburn.
Any special training secrets? Nothing will ever beat consistency.
Favourite post race meal? Pizza and a couple of beers with your support crew is always good.
Name: Joanne O’Dwyer
Age Group: F40-44
Sprint/Olympic/Long/Aquathlon? Olympic Distance
Is this your first Worlds?  If not, how many time have you represented Australia?  This is my 2nd Worlds.   Surely I’ve mentioned that I represented Australia in Vancouver, Canada in 2008?
How do you feel about making the Australian Team this year?  Delighted!  There were only 12 Aussie’s in my age-group in Vancouver, so I could have walked the qualifying races and still made it.  This year I had to play smart by choosing my races well, and race hard – no DNF’s!  I feel I really earned my place.
Goal for the race?  To have a spectacular finishing photo.
Any special training secrets?
I call it my “Four Step Plan”.
Step 1. Show up
Step 2. Do the training
Step 3. Go home
Step 4. Repeat steps 1-4.
Favourite post race meal?  Just like pregnancy, I view finishing a triathlon as a license to eat.  For Worlds this year Rach Baker and I have been talking snot-blocks (vanilla-slices) and Tridents champagne.
